Quantitative maps are essential for understanding how social, economic, cultural, and other phenomena are spatially distributed across a territory or region.
These maps are designed to answer questions such as “how much?” or “what is the intensity?” of a particular phenomenon in a given location. The spatial variability of phenomena can be analyzed through the geographic representation of numerical data or statistical indicators.

Figure 1 presents population data by municipality using symbols proportional to the population value of each municipality. The larger the population, the larger the circle.

Another way to represent quantitative data is through a dot density map. In Figure 2, each dot represents approximately 400,000 inhabitants, making it easy to identify the distribution and concentration of population across Brazilian territory.

Quantitative maps are widely used to represent variables such as:
